JAZZWA is proud to announce the world premiere performance of two commissioned works for piano duet composed and performed by acclaimed WA jazz pianists Tom O'Halloran and Graham Wood.

The contrasting works ("Dissolve" by O'Halloran and "Cohesion" penned by Wood) fuse jazz improvisation and harmonic sensibilities with pianistic techniques more commonly found in classical music and also draw influence from other musical areas such as Minimalism and the European avant-garde.

Featured by JAZZWA as part of the 2011 "Piano Perspectives" project, O'Halloran and Wood will take to the stage at Perth's prestigious Government House Ballroom at 3pm on Sunday December 4th to perform their original compositions, alongside some arrangements of well-known jazz standards in what promises to be a unique and engaging concert of piano duets.

This event will also serve as the launch of the Piano Perspectives album, recorded by O'Halloran and Wood for JAZZWA at The Perth Concert Hall earlier this year. All presale-ticket holders are guaranteed to receive a free copy of the Piano Perspectives CD upon entry. Door-sale ticket holders will also receive a free CD but only while stocks last.

The Piano Perspectives project is designed to strengthen and encourage the artform of the piano duet in jazz, and to give jazz pianists the opportunity to perform on the finest instruments available. As such, O'Halloran and Wood will both perform on 9 ft Fazioli concert grand pianos; the first belonging to the Government House Foundation and the second being generously provided for this event by Zenith Music.

Quite possibly, this will be the first time that two top WA jazz pianists have composed, performed and recorded together in the piano duet format. Considering the quality of the venue, the instruments, the musicians and of course the music itself - this event is truly a once-off opportunity, not to be missed.

Following the show there will be a VIP event, providing the opportunity to meet and greet the artists and indulge in wines and freshly shucked oysters kindly provided by the Great Southern Region and Albany Oyster farm and an array of other delicacies.
